A bot host leaked every token and servers got wiped
A hosted AI bot service was breached. Attackers used the stolen bot tokens to delete channels and roles and ban members in every server where those bots had Administrator.

Who owns what, in plain terms
Ownership is the reason Aspectobots exists. Here is what each plan gives you. The full ownership terms include the license texts.
Paid bots are MIT from the first build
When a paid plan builds your bot, its code is licensed to you under the MIT license. Use it, change it, sell it, host it anywhere. MIT can't be taken back, so every version you export stays yours even if you cancel.
Full ownership moves the copyright to you
After 12 paid months, or on day one with a one-time build, we assign the copyright in your bot's code to you in writing. Then you can pick any license, including a closed one. The shared runtime every bot uses stays MIT from us.
Free and ad-supported bots stay hosted
Resident and Commons bots run on our servers under a hosted use license. Your data, settings and Discord application are yours and export as JSON any time, but the generated code isn't licensed for redistribution. Upgrade and it becomes MIT from that build on.
No ads inside your server, ever
Discord's developer policy doesn't allow bots to send ads or share Discord data with ad networks, and we agree with it. Commons shows ads only on our website and dashboard. We don't sell data on any plan.

When can I start building?
There's no date yet. Aspectobots will open in stages, starting with Discord. Roster members hear first and get access in the order they joined, and saved sketches are built first.
How does Aspectobots relate to Aspectora?
Aspectobots is part of Aspectora, the modular platform for running every kind of business site. It's built and supported by Sym Services, the team behind Aspectora.
Why Discord first?
That's where the demand is, and doing one platform well beats doing nine badly. Twitch and Telegram are next. Use Notify me in the platform list to tell us what you want.
What does the MIT license let me do?
Run it, change it, sell it, bundle it into something else. The one condition is keeping the copyright and license notice in copies. After full ownership, even that is your call for your bot's own code.
What happens to my bot if I cancel?
Hosting stops at the end of the billing period. Every export you made stays yours under MIT, so export once more and run it on your own machine or any host. If you passed 12 paid months, the copyright is already yours.
Why isn't the ad-supported plan MIT?
Ads pay for the hosting, and they only pay while the bot runs with us. Giving away the code would remove what funds the plan. Your data and settings are still yours, and upgrading makes the code MIT from that build on.
Will ads ever show up in my Discord server?
No, on any plan. Commons ads appear only on the Aspectobots website and dashboard. Your members never see them.
Who qualifies for the Duty Rate?
Firefighters, EMS, police, dispatchers, active duty, reserve and veteran members of the armed services, nurses, doctors, licensed electricians and plumbers. A verification service confirms it and tells us only yes or no. You re-check once a year.
How do you keep my bot token safe?
Each token is encrypted with its own key, stored separately from the app database. Bots request only the permissions their features need. Mass bans and channel deletes are rate-capped, and you can rotate a token from the dashboard in one step.
Can it play music?
It plays internet radio streams and audio files you have rights to. We won't ship YouTube playback, since it breaks YouTube's terms and is why several big music bots shut down.
